Property Overview

The Glengarry Mine Complex had its start in 1864. Gold and Silver ores were located in the remote and high mountains and was transported down to a central point, which later became Cooke City. Prior to that the little city was known as Miners Camp and Clark Fork City.
The mines were hampered by transport issues, being unable to ship ores out for processing. In 1876 a smelter was built as a cooperative with several miners. Smelting is the most inefficient method to recover metals, however it was the cheapest and fastest to build.
The mines of the Glengarry were initially shallow, but soon expanded as technology increased. The Glengarry Adit was 2300' in 1925. In the 1930s and shaft was sunk in Como Basin that dropped 600' and intercepted a massive sulfide gold and silver deposit. This prompted expansion of the Glengarry adit to meet with the bottom of the shaft.
Total horizontal workings are stated to be 3,060.
The ore is a copper, gold, silver lead sulfide ore hosted in a Meagher Limestone. Assays averaged 0.8 oz AU and 3.0 oz. AG and 8% copper per ton.
In 1996 the USFS and Montana DEQ performed a reclamation on the site, generally remediating any current problems. The mine is open and available for permitting with no current environmental issues outstanding.
A floatation mill near the portal of the Glengarry Adit was first built in 1915. It was built to process gold and copper ores, discarding silver and lead due to the low prices of the time. Silver and lead was discarded all around the upper mill. It can still be seen in abundance around the area.
A 1993 Report on the property states that there is at least 12,000,000 tons of material which carries at least 0.222 oz AU, 0.87 oz AG and 0.75 CU per ton.
The property stands as a brownfield development with at least 2,640,000 ounces of gold and 180 Million tons of copper just waiting to be processed.

Gold Rush Expeditions, Inc. does offer mining consultation services and assistance with permits for a small fee.
