Property Overview
Black Rock property was developed in or around 1914 on a dark outcrop of silver and manganese. From 1914 to 1936, the property shipped manganese to steel refineries in the general region.
In 1936 the mine ceased manganese production due to silver/gold/quartz deposits that made the manganese not profitable for processing.
From 1939 to 1941 the United States Bureau of Mines pursued an investigative development of the site. Driving 13,000+ ' of road up to the mine. They also conducted extensive drifting and exploratory work on the east and west side of the canyon to determine the size of the manganese deposit. By 1941 it was determined that the primary manganese deposit was depleted. Auriferous pyrites, Galena, Chalcopyrite, Sphalerite and Quartz were primary minerals left in the mines.
The property was absorbed by the Bar X Mining Company in 1946 but no development was ever reported.
The mining complex is on the east and west side of the canyon, consisting of 1900' of subsurface development.
Sampling on the east and west side assayed an average of 9.5 oz/T Silver, 0.3 oz/T AU.
No milling conducted on site and no tailings present. There are several dump piles which were sampled. Compilation of the dump samples gave a general average of 4.1 oz/T Silver and 0.09 oz/T in Gold.
Dumps total volume is roughly 13,197 tons combined.
The property is in good general condition and the subsurface is easily accessible. Some shoring and clean out of the drifts would be beneficial.
The site can be accessed by high clearance vehicles when dry. Wet conditions will require 4WD.
Gold Rush Expeditions, Inc. does offer mining consultation services and assistance with permits for a small fee.
