Property Overview
The Moonlight property is an excellent example of high value Montana mining site that has been largely forgotten. The property is in the heart of the South Boulder Mining district, which is known for gold and copper, most productive prior to 1940.
The Moonlight commodities are gold, silver and copper. Most notable exports have been in gold and copper values. Surface samples show well and there is good valuation in the dumps, which leads to the assumption that the veins and deposits in the mine are quite rich.
The mine has been purposefully blocked, likely by the mine owners, prior to 1940. 215’ into the workings there is a blockage that has been brought in from outside, there is no collapse, no surface fill. Someone brought dirt and muck back 200’ to close access. The dating is further confirmed by heavy cable that has been attached to the rail in the mine, with the intent to extract it. This was common in the late 1930s and early 1940 when metal demand was at a premium. The fact that the extraction failed at the blockage point indicates that the blockage already existed prior to the attempted extraction.
Several small veins containing gold, iron and copper are visible in the workings. These are small veins and likely inconsequential as they have only been lightly worked.
The mine is reported to run east for approximately 225’ and then turn sharply south to explore the gold veins as they run through the mountain. In matching this description with the mine workings and the shaft on the property this seems to be in line with the deposits running up and over the mountain to the south. The claims have been written as such to cover all of the deposits and the apex of the vein.
Gold Rush Expeditions, Inc. does offer mining consultation services and assistance with permits for a small fee.
