Property Overview

The Republic Placer property was formed in or around 1872 when coarse gold nuggets were discovered on the south gulch outside Miners Camp (later Cooke City). The gold deposition was substantial and some reports nuggets as large as 4 ounces found by moving stones in the river. Placer mining was executed using large hydraulic equipment to break out the river walls. Known as "hydraulicking". This practice was extremely intrusive and largely frowned upon by 1920. Placer mining continued on a small scale while the larger mines higher on the mountain were sunk and developed. While the larger underground mines had sporadic activity, the placers continued in commercial operation until 1940 when the mining was outlawed by the War Act.
Small miners continued operation and the property has been active up into 1990 with documented gold recovery.
The Republic is broken up into two distinct properties. Republic North and Republic South.
The Republic North is the more untamed side. With large waterfall and cut rock features, perfect for catching large, heavy gold. There are deep ravines with large old hydraulic dumps on the banks. Many sharp cuts and turns in the river and the river can be accessed by good, county maintained roads on the east and west side of the property.
Gold can be found intermixed with quartz and some copper based minerals as seen in images. Gold is also reported as rough nuggets, broken recently (in the last 10,000 years) from ledges and veins as the Yellowstone caldera continues to level off.
Several hundred thousand tons of dumps from hydraulic work are found on both sides of the river and can be worked without any river intrusion.
A rare site in a very remote location that will undoubtedly yield positive returns if properly developed.

Gold Rush Expeditions, Inc. does offer mining consultation services and assistance with permits for a small fee.

Training courses for underground work and exploration can be found here: https://stayoutstayalive.com/training/
